YAKIMA, Wash. -- Stray cats and dogs continue to cause overcrowding at Yakima's Central Washington Humane Society. The shelter is offering special adoption deals to help animals find good homes.

This month you can get a cat for $5 and a dog for $30 -- both spayed and neutered and with all shots. Dogs also come with a microchip.

Organizers say the special events and lower prices are helping.

"We're seeing a lot more people come in supporting their community and homeless pets," said Outreach Coordinator, Erica Seaver-Engel. "And we find that giving a little financial incentive can help those people, great families find great cats and dogs."

An event this weekend was already a huge success. More than 40 pets found good homes.
