The name, which has either been the most popular or second-most popular boy's name since 1992 has fallen to No. 5 in 2011, according to the state's Department of Health. In its place, newcomer Mason which has rocketed up the charts of late, from No. 27 in 2009 and No. 11 in 2010 to No. 1 in 2011. Liam is also gaining popularity fast, checking in at No. 2 in 2011 after finishing 8th in 2010 and 16th in 2009.
The girl's side has been more consistent with Sophia again No. 1 in 2011 as it was in 2010. In fact, the girls' Top 10 list is pretty much the same as 2010's list, only with a few names trading spots.
The DOH says parents these days chose more unique names with only about half of boys names coming from the Top 100 name chart -- and less than 1/3 for girls. In 1980, 73 percent of boys names came from the Top 100 list while 53 percent of girls did.
The Top 10 names for boys in Washington are, in order, Mason, Liam, Alexander, Ethan, Jacob, Daniel, Noah, William, Logan and Benjamin.
For girls, the top 10 are: Sophia, Olivia, Emma, Isabella, Emily, Ava, Abigail, Madison, Chloe and Elizabeth.
While Jacob is no longer the champ in Washington it can take solace that it is still the most popular name overall in the United States. Isabella is tops nationally for girls with Sophia coming in at No. 2.
