Man shot in leg during gang shooting in Yakima

On 5/31/12 approximately 16 minutes after midnight, Yakima Police Officers responded to the 600 block of N. 16th Ave. for reports of gunshots being fired. Information then came in that a subject had been shot and was down by gunfire. Upon arrival, a 37 year old male gunshot victim was found on the sidewalk. The victim had been shot in the leg. He was shot as he was standing outside an apartment. Witnesses said the suspect walked up to the victim from the street and shot several times. One round hit the victim. The suspect ran westbound and was described by witnesses. This suspect was located several blocks away and was positively identified by witnesses. A handgun was recovered.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment for a serious but non-life threatening injury.

Both victim and suspect are self-admitted gang members from opposing gangs.
