YAKIMA - A man accused of beating his girlfriend and fracturing the skull of a newborn appeared in court Thursday.
Zeshawn Durrani faces second-degree assault charges of a child.
Investigators say he hit his girlfriend repeatedly in the head as she held a six-day-old baby.
The baby's being treated in Seattle for a skull fracture after suffering seizures and swelling to the head.
A judge today restricted Durrani's use of the jail phone to only call his lawyer after he tried to get his girlfriend to take back her claims.
According to Yakima County court documents, doctor's say the newborn will likely have permanent brain damage from the injury.
He's being held pending $100,000 bond and is due back in court in January.
