WAPATO, Wash. -- The Yakima Valley stepped up to the plate to help the woman and her seven kids living with no water. The family has a dry well, and can't afford to fix it.
They've been using a neighbor's hose to fill milk jugs and buckets full of water for bathing, drinking and even using the bathroom. Now several local people and businesses stepped up to help.
Picatti Brothers Inc. offered to organize an effort to drill the well free of charge. But until the drilling begins, Crop Production Services out of Toppenish is setting up a 1,000 gallon tank of water tomorrow for the family to use.
"I am so happy to the person who donated this," says Blanca Canales. "You don't know how is makes me feel that someone out there cares and someone out there listens. It's just an awesome blessing, and I greatly greatly appreciate it."
Several people have also donated cases of bottles water to the family. We will of course follow up with the Canales family when they finally have water again.
