Jury: Shop owner justified in Walla Walla shooting

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- A jury found John Saul justified in shooting Cesar Chavira to death back in May in Walla Walla's New York Store.
An attorney for Chavira's family stated a wrongful death civil suit will be filed against Saul.
Walla Walla's prosecuting attorney will be reviewing case and decide what the next step is.
Owner John Saul said he caught Cesar Chavez stealing belts and buckles red-handed before unloading as many as five shotgun rounds into the 22-year-old.
The issue went to a panel of jurors when investigators couldn't determine if John Saul acted properly by shooting Chavira as he broke into Saul's store.
Some of those who testified included first responders, pathologists and Chavira's girlfriend.
Franklin County's coroner was asked to be the judge in the case because he is considered the expert in the state. He's been a part of two other inquests in his career, more than anyone else.
I'm struck by how poorly the news reporter described this story. Is this the result of too much concentration on social engineering and not enough teaching the basics of good reporting? Too many stories nowadays are sloppy reporting like this.

I dug around and discovered a report that says the owner shot the perp after he was threatened, followed by a lunge by the perp at the owner.Â

How any prosecutor with half a brain could expect to get a conviction under those circumstances is a mystery known only to him and his caretaker. But, then again, he's not spending his own money prosecuting the owner on flimsy charges is he?

Who klnows? But his story certainly can't be disproven, nor should anybody try. Perps have to understand that when they break into someone's home or business they're fresh meat for anybody with a gun and would do well to make out a will before hand.

Incidentally, although the Zimmerman self-defense case is MUCH stronger than this one, since the black perp literally blasted him with a blind-side punch, beat him in the face, then slammed his head into the concrete, the corrupt Florida Judge Kenneth Lester and the crooked prosecutor are trying to NIFONG him in their kangaroo court by fabricating evidence, just as Nifong did to the La Crosse team on the rape hoax.
