YAKIMA, Wash. -- Action News dug into local restaurant records and found a lot of the people who handle your food don't have a permit. Yakima County inspection reports show 260 such permit violations for restaurants, mini marts and grocery stores so far this year, which is about one a day. Washington State requires food safety training for all workers before handling food served to the public.
"The Health Department with their classes and their permits that's where you get educated so you know the right way to prepare food-how to protect food keep it cool/hot-all the different variances. So that you can be assured that what you eat is good eating," said local restaurant owner Jar Arcand.
Food workers must also pass a state exam on food safety to get their Food Worker Card and that requirement can be met online.
