YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- Nineteen potential charter schools have applied for opening across the state, five of them in Yakima County. Some of those could open as early as next year. Just what will these new school offer your children?

As a mother of three, Jenny Bade wants to make sure her young kids get the best education possible. The idea of a charter school, is something she's strongly considering.

"Cause the kids need something more than what they have now," said Bade.

She's all for any opportunity that could provide something she feels they're not getting right now.

"To keep kids safe out of drugs, out of gangs," said Bade.

Of the five organizations interested in building in Yakima County there are two applications in Yakima, two in Sunnyside, and one in Toppenish. Each with a different focal point.

The Yakima Academy is applying as a high school for students at risk of substance abuse and gang affiliation, that may have dropped out of traditional school.

The Cesar Chavez School, also applying to open in Yakima for 2015, would be a kindergarten through 8th grade dual language school for Spanish speakers.

In Toppenish, there are plans for an International Technology and Education Institute, that will work with students with special needs.

The Sunnyside Charter Schools is applying as a K through 8 STEM school.

And the Inspire Developmental Education Academy is applying as a K-5 school for students of farmers and migrant families that are learning English.

The founder of Inspire Development says their curriculum will help the students in the future,

"They're going to be future employees in our community businesses and for the economic development of the area," said Tadeo Saenz-Thompson.

Eight new charter schools will be allowed to open every year for the next five years, so kid's like Jenny's can have the best.

"The kids need to be off the streets, that's all I worry about," said Bade.

We'll learn which schools will be chosen by the end of January.
