YAKIMA, Wash. -- Fewer parents in Kittitas and Yakima Counties are having their kids opt out of vaccines required for school.

In Kittitas County, the percentage of exempt kindergartners dropped by more than half. It went from almost 13 percent for the 2009 school year to less than 5 percent last year.

The numbers in Yakima County also dipped. They went from almost 2 percent in 2009 to less than a percent last year.

Exemptions from the vaccine requirements are allowed for personal, philosophical or medical reasons.
