Engineers deem Allied Arts building 'dangerous'
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Engineers now say the Allied Arts building in Gilbert Park is "dangerous". A report found the building is vulnerable to major snow or wind.

Engineers say no one should use it and the building should be fenced off. Employees will relocate after the new year. Repair costs could be substantial.

Allied Arts already spent about $30,000 on the inspection. Executive Director Robb Wasielewski says the money is worth it.

"Even though the costs to the repair building could be considerable, Allied Arts as an organization is committed to channeling its resources and the resources of the community to be able to address the needs of that building, and to ensure that it remains a community icon in the arts and cultural community and in the community of Yakima for a long, long time."

A second report is due next month. It will identify what repairs need to be made to get the Allied Arts building back in shape.
