EAST VALLEY, Wash. -- East Valley High School students are finishing up their collection for the KIMA Kids for Cans food drive. They collected more than 900 pounds of food so far.

Highland High School currently leads with more than a ton of food collected. East Valley High won last year after collecting more than 6,500 pounds. Students said they're glad to do something that helps people.

"It actually makes me really proud that we're able to do this for other people,” said Jakob Michael. “We bring in tons of cans and tons of food."

Ridgeview Elementary collected more than 1,400 pounds of food so far. Zillah Middle School and Selah High School collected more than 600 pounds each.
