Driver hits statue and flees scene
UNION GAP, Wash. -- A drunk driver is blamed for crashing into the Union Gap's brand new statue on Valley Mall boulevard early Friday morning.
The driver tried to take off -- but was arrested nearby. There's also damage to the sign for the new Cabela's.
"We know the city and Cabela's will work closely together to get that fixed as soon as possible it was a surprise to the store, we didn't know it was a surprise to the store we didn't know it was getting put up to begin with so when we heard the news we we're elated to see it go up. We want to get it fixed as soon as we can," said Union Gap Cabela's manager Jorey Schooler.
Estimates are being done to find out the cost to repair the steel, cinder blocks, and rock work that was destroyed. Police say the driver will be charged with DUI and hit-and-run.
