Downtown bike patrols to begin in June
YAKIMA, Wash. -- After a test run last fall, Yakima police bike patrols will begin in June.

Four uniformed officers will ride bikes in the area seven days a week until about midnight. The officers will likely be riding in teams of two.

Downtown crews say it will help them keep watch.

"We can only observe and report and be there for the merchants," said Block by Block Manager Matt Klaus. "It will alleviate those lag times between us responding and YPD responding."

YPD hasn't had a bike patrol downtown since the early 90's.
