Deputies: 2 captured after assaulting guard, escaping group home

KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. -- Two people are in custody after they assaulted a 72-year-old guard while trying to escape a group home near Ellensburg, deputies said.

The Parke Creek Group Home guard told state patrol he was conducting his routine checks when he was hit from behind and knocked unconscious. He said he was tied up when he regained consciousness but was able to free himself and call 9-1-1. He told troopers the two also stole his wallet and keys.

Deputies found the victim's car loaded with the suspects' bags and clothing. They later determined the two didn't know how to drive a stick-shift.

A few hours later, deputies said the two stole a car on Parke Creek Road and led police on a short pursuit. One of the suspects was in the car and taken into custody. The victim's belongings were recovered. That suspect was booked into the Yakima Juvenile Detention Facility.

The second suspect was located around 6:30 a.m. about five miles south of the group home. He too was taken into custody.

The victim was taken to the hospital.
