RICHLAND, Wash. -- A grisly discovery took place last week in Richland when three young children reported their own mother's murder. Action News obtained court papers that say the 32-year-old woman was stabbed repeatedly while her children were awake in the home.

According to an autopsy, Rebeca Vandeventer was stabbed ten times in the front of her body, 11 times in the groin and nine times in the back.

Court papers say Vandeventer's 8-year-old child witnessed the suspect, Larry Miller, throw his mother down and heard him get a knife from the drawer.

Police found Vandeventer dead in her apartment after her children went to a neighbor's apartment and told them their mother was dead, according to investigators.

Police said Miller showed up at the Richland Police Department a few hours later and turned himself in for the crime. Miller told police he killed Vandeventer by stabbing her several times with a kitchen steak knife, according to court documents.

Miller is charged with second degree murder with several aggravating factors. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

Vandeventer grew up in Yakima and attended Eisenhower High School.

This is the third murder in three months in Richland.
