Council members: Sunnyside interim police chief let go

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- Deputy police chief Phil Schenck has been either fired or laid off, according to several city council members. This comes just one day after he applied to fill the vacant chief position.
The decision came in a letter from city manager Frank Sweet.
Action News learned his last day will be at the end of this month.
The police chief position in Sunnyside has been vacant since March 2012 when Ed Radder retired.
Neither Sweet nor Schenck could be reached for comment.
