Controversy over Selah homes being annexed into city limits

Controversy over Selah homes being annexed into city limits
SELAH, Wash. -- There's some controversy in Selah about whether dozens of Yakima County homes will be annexed into city limits.

The roughly 70 properties are near Selah Loop Road. Some homeowners approached Selah asking to be annexed. But, a recent survey indicated less than half of the homeowners support it.
One neighbor doesn't think there's a reason to change.

"I think that people like the way of life here in the county and like that there aren't as many rules and regulations,” Stephanie Erickson said. “Also, like that our water bill is cheaper, our sewer bill is cheaper, and we’re not as tied to those kinds of cost when we're in the city.”

The Selah Police Department opposed adding the property because it would be difficult to patrol.

A public meeting will be held next week.
