COOS BAY, Ore. - For four and a half minutes, you can brace the rough surf off the Oregon Coast with the Coast Guard Station Coos Bay.
The local submission for Video of the Year won first place in a nationwide contest sponsored by the Coast Guard.
Mitchell Abbott, a fireman for the Coast Guard with a degree in digital video production, is behind the winning entry.
He used small waterproof cameras mounted on helmets and boats to take viewers into the rough surf with a Coast Guard vessel.
"Not a lot of people know about this job," Abbott told KCBY News. "I didn't know about this job when I joined the Coast Guard, so by shooting videos like this we can give people a little bit of a perspective of what we do, the unique weather that we deal with here, and the unique conditions."
