City council delays proposed Yakima Transit cutbacks
YAKIMA, Wash. -- The Yakima City Council voted Tuesday to delay a proposal to reduce the number of bus routes operated by Yakima Transit.

The council agreed unanimously to table the plans to eliminate Sunday service and the Yakima-Ellensburg commuter line while city officials try to find funding to maintain the services.

City Manager Tony O'Rourke told the council that the city has recently made progress toward finding potential funding sources for the routes.

Yakima Transit staff had proposed ending Sunday bus routes in April and closing the Yakima-Ellensburg line by July.

The city currently spends more than $220,000 to maintain the two services.
