Charges: Robbery, high-speed chase, attempted car jacking

UNION GAP, Wash. — A reported robbery at a Union Gap toy store led to a high-speed chase through that ended in Yakima. The suspect was eventually captured, but not before he allegedly crashed into several cars, ran from officers and tried to car jack someone.

Here's the report from Union Gap police:

On 04/24/13 at approx 1545 hrs the Union Gap Police Department responded to a report of a theft in progress from Toys-R-Us, 1400 E Washington Ave.  At approx 1555 hrs an Officer observed the suspect vehicle near the intersection of S Fair Ave and Nob Hill Blvd and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle.  The vehicle failed to stop and short vehicle pursuit ensued.  The suspect reached speeds of 50 mph in residential neighborhoods and ran two stop signs.  The pursuit was terminated for public safety. 

The suspect, a white male - 37 YOA, continued to drive recklessly.  He ran a stop sign at the intersection of S 5th Ave and W Chestnut Ave and collided with two additional vehicles.  The suspect then fled the scene of the collision and attempted to car jack another vehicle.  A citizen intervened and held the suspect until the police could arrive. 

The suspect had a felony warrant at the time of this incident and will be booked into jail on the Warrant, Robbery, and Attempt to Elude.
