Central Washington State Fair amps up security

Central Washington State Fair amps up security
YAKIMA, Wash. -- People had no problems lining up to get into the Central Washington State Fair on Friday. Great weather for opening day brought a nice crowd.

Organizers spend all year making sure everything goes right during the ten-day event. Of course, they have to plan for the possibility some things go wrong.

More people pour into the fair each year. Fair officials tell KIMA they expect more than 300,000 people to come to the fairgrounds over the course of the next 10 days. With a bunch of people all in one place, a topic on everyone's mind is to have fun but also safety.

Expect to see it on the grounds. Organizers tell KIMA they have increased security this year. In fact, they plan to have more officers this year than in the past. And they're not taking any chances.

"We put a program in place with local law enforcement, Yakima police, that has made this a great place to come. We have quite a few people out on the grounds in conjunction with law enforcement, so just about anywhere you walk you're going to see some kind of public safety officer,” said Randy Scott who is the fair security manager.
