YAKIMA, Wash. -- Nearly 30 neighbors gathered in Yakima's Millennium Plaza at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon to take a moment and remember homeless locals who have died this year.
Candles were passed around to all who attended.
The vigil was purposely scheduled on the longest night of the year to resemble the frigid weather the homeless battle on a daily basis.
"We get to see what it feels like," said Romiro Gomez. "So, honestly I'm just humbled to be here, humbled to be at this event and I guess, emotionally I feel just a spirit of giving."
This was the ninth annual vigil hosted by Yakima Neighborhood Health Services.
It was also part of National Homeless Person's Memorial Day.
