WAPATO, Wash. -- A brush fire broke out Friday afternoon near Wapato.

Firefighters say it was mostly under control within hours. Crews say the fire burned about 50 acres off Kays Road. No one was injured and no buildings were threatened.

Authorities believe the spark of a gun started the fire.

“Yeah, I was out shooting the gun, and I didn't notice, but my friend, he stopped me in mid-fire, and he was like, 'Stop, there's a fire over there!'" said Thomas Hansen.

Hansen says he tried to put the fire out with his friends, but they were unsuccessful. They then called authorities for help.
