Investigators believe Scantling and the victim knew each other.
The man's body was still in the home as of late Friday morning.
Officers say a 911 call came from inside the home about 7:40 Friday morning. When police arrived they found Palmer dead.
A 41-year-old man was believed to have been in the home at the time of the shooting. Officers are working on the theory that he fled the scene and is heading "North." He is considered a "person of interest" but has not been named. It is believed both the victim and the person of interest lived at the home.
Officers say initial indications suggest this was a domestic dispute and this was not a gang-related shooting. They told KEPR the location is considered a "problem house" due to the frequent visits required by police.
A mobile command unit is already in place outside the home on the 500 block of East 8th Avenue. The home is a few blocks east of Kennewick General Hospital. The state crime lab is expected to arrive by Friday afternoon.
@ micheal well since I have family in the police force and firefighters I'm pretty aware of the shootings there! That's the problem with yakima and the lower valley everyone wants to turn their heads! Yakima has a huge gang and drug problem which leads to nothing good!
Probably heading to Lincoln City! :-o
I agree with Mike. If people think things are so bad - then help make them better or move. I don't care where you live - there are problems. Our job is to quit talking trash about our Valley and make it better - and not be part of the negative!!!!
Makes Yakima look pretty good........for the day. BTW: anybody else hear on the Terrace Heights case, that the victim also had a gun. Just heard a rumor..??
UPDATE: Our sister-station KREM 2 News in Spokane reports police have blocked off several roads while searching for Grant Scantling, 41, the homicide suspect from this morning's shooting that left a 21-year-old dead in Kennewick.
The majestic is Union Gap. Terrace Heights isn't Yakima either.
Brooke...I study it way to much. Would you like me to quote them to you! Or would you rather have the police chief give them to you! lol
It's actually nice to see folks speak up against those that speak oh so negative about Yakima, I call them "the sky is falling people"....everyone have a great day.
i love my hometown and it is very nice to see so many people defending it. there is so much more to the valley then our crime rate!
@Kaia: What about them? Those types of shootings don't happen very often. The lady shot at The Majestic was specifically targeted by her husband, and the woman shot in Terrace Heights was ruled an accident, from what I remember (might be wrong, though).
@micheal. You might want to study up on your facts! Lol
I have been a crime victim a few times before. It was because someone happened to know when we werent home or it was a crime of opportunity. Yes it sucks to have someone invade my house but i wont leave Yakima. I will raise my kids the same way I was raised and hopefully they will turn out to be a stand up citizan as I am.
Also, if you thinkYakima is such a hole, I have two questions: What are you doing to hellp prevent crime (or are you just looking out for yourself), and who is making you stay in Yakima? Are there better places for crime? Sure, but there are worse, too.
I was here for 18 years before I joined the Navy. Lived on 2nd Street, stayed at some of the rent by the month hotels on 1st Street, never had a problem. Move back here after 12 years in the Navy (been back over 3 years) have yet to have a problem. The only time I was a victim of crime was when I was stationed in Bangor, Maine, and I had my identity stolen and about $2,000 worth of CDS, and in Chicago, IL, I had a Sirius Satellite receiver stolen out of my car. Crime is everywhere...
I am glad I left that horrible town called Yakima
@ Mike Bastinelli there has acutally been more then 1 murder this year in yakima. But crime is every where not just here in yakima. P.S love your talk show
@Michael. I disagree. I am not involved in drugs or illegal activities but was robbed at gun point in January. So ur theory isn't correct. There called victims for a reason.
hahahaha @Aaron: Amazing, crime happened elsewhere?! WHAT?!?! smdh Too funny Shared
@Naomi Anne, just a question asked with all respect. If it's so bad, why don't you take that leap of faith and move to a safer city? What keeps you here? If you can't stand it, do something about it.
Naomi. Yakima has had one murder all year. I've lived her 25 years and have never been a victim of crime. If you don't do drugs...involve yourself in illegal activity then there's a good chance you won't be a victim. Move!!!
I know Kennewick has crime but in comparison with Yakima, Kennewick is pretty safe.
Um, I've lived in Kennewick and Yakima. There is a LOT more crime here in Yakima. Every other day someone is murdered it seems. I don't recall that many murders in Kennewick when I lived there. Not even in pasco. Yakima is a crappy hole of a town. If you think we overreact, move here for awhile...its scary to walk to your own car in most neighborhoods.
I have to sell my Tri City Americans tickets. I'm afraid to go to the games now. And they should cancel the hydro races, because it won't be safe there.
Yes, I'm very much aware it is Kennewick. I was making fun of all the people who do the "I'm glad I left Yakima" comments whenever there's a report of some crime in Yakima, implying that Yakima is the only place with crime. I know, I said "crime" a lot.
Oh my God. I won't ever feel safe going to Columbia Center or Chuckie Cheese again. If I lived in Kennewick I would move! That sound just as stupid as some of you people who overreact when something bad happens in Yakima!
he was being sarcastic ^^
Kennewick^^^^^
very true Aaron! :)
YAKIMA SUCKS! I CAN'T BELIEVE CRIME ONLY HAPPENS IN YAKIMA! /sarcasm
