YAKIMA, Wash. -- A life-changing early education program received a grant over $350,000 that allowed 80 more families to join. Parents as Teachers provided home visits to families as early as pregnancies until the child turned three. Evidence showed the support made children healthier, more prepared for school, and less likely to suffer from abuse or neglect. Parents as Teachers also educated parents on parenting, nurturing, nutrition, and care-giving. Home visits were provided twice a month, but could vary depending on services the family needed.

"The children come with nothing in this world and so they are always looking for their parents as a model,” said Parents as Teachers Educator, Aurora Pena-Torres.

Three new full time workers were added to their staff of three. For more information, visit the Catholic Family and Child services website at cfcsyakima.org.
