Cops Bust Problem House In Narcotic Sting

YAKIMA -- Seeing cops at the house across Queen Anne Boulevard wasn't a shock to Chris Olson. He just moved in four days ago and already heard from neighbors about the problems going on across the street.

"We were concerned as a community, we were going to get in force maybe go downtown and see what we could do about it," Olson says.

Neighbors told me that house has been a problem for a long time. They say they knew it was a drug house, knew criminals lived there. In fact, they were going to the police for help, that is until the cops showed up to bust in.

I filed a public records request and found neighbors have seen the police here five times just this month. A search warrant resulted in the discovery of a cash of drugs and stolen electronics.

Investigators tell me drugs were being bought and sold from the house, and often bartered for these electronics, nearly all of which were stolen.

"The drug activity in Yakima is getting out of hand at least there's something being done about it. And sure, I'm going to be more aware of what's going on," explained Olson.

And cops say, breaking down doors like the one on Queen Anne can cut crime elsewhere.

"You may have things that were stolen here by someone that actually takes it to Tri-Cities, Spokane, Seattle area to get rid of it," Sgt. Kelly Willard says.

But Chris Olson is happy to see cops making a difference.

"I'm glad to see something finally being done. Now, I don't know long-run what's going to happen, but at least I can see Yakima Police Department doing what they need to do in getting these people out of the neighborhood."
