Yakima - The Eastern Washington 2010 Census Office is offering something that Yakima desperately needs right now, jobs.

A spokesman for the U.S. Census Bureau says the state will hire 18,000 people. That means there will be about 1,800 jobs available for the Eastern Washington Office, which includes Spokane, Yakima and Richland. Most of the hiring will take place next spring, but there will be some jobs open by next month.

" The numbers we're looking at today, based on the most current information I have is that there will be a couple of hundred people that will be hired by december," said Ruben T. Del Valle, Media Specialist for the U.S. Census Bureau Seattle Center.

They'll begin the prep work for census counting in the hardest to count areas. Pay can range anywhere from $17 to $25 an hour. These jobs will be posted at worksource sites, but you can also get more information by calling the U.S. Census Bureau.
