Creek Opens to Salmon
By Ryan Simms
ELLENSBURG -- Outside Ellensburg, it's a case of mother nature being restored.
After years of being blocked by a dam, the Taneum Creek has been restored to its old form. The project was part of an effort to get Salmon to swim continuously from one area of Washington to another. Planning took seven years, but the end result was well-worth the wait. David Hull, construction manager of MRM Construction, says this is the first time in 125 years that salmon will be able to migrate in the stream. Workers had to knock down an old dam for the creek to be restored. Construction on the project only took six weeks. |
