Daycares Protect Against H1N1
By Melissa Wagner
YAKIMA - Local daycare centers can be a breeding ground for viruses including the H1N1. And with children among the most vulnerable to this strain of the flu, The C-D-C has some recommendations parents should know.
Daycares should be cleaning all surfaces more frequently, encourage staff to get vaccinated, and constantly checking kids for signs of illness. Daycare centers we talked to have already sent a lot of their kids home with high fevers. " Lots of them. But at this point they're not really telling us whether it's swine flu or not. Just to be on the safe side, anyone with symptoms we're sending home and making sure we return to the classroom immediately and sanitize everything," said Leslie Lowe, Site Coordinator for Country Kids Daycare in Terrace Heights. It will mean more work for the staff, but keeping a sanitized environment is the only way to protect kids. Many centers are also telling parents to keep their kids home 24 hours after the fever breaks. |
