62-year-old man with dementia goes missing

OUTLOOK, Wash.-- A 62-year-old man with dementia went missing in Outlook Wednesday night, according to a press release from the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office. The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office got a report from the man’s sister that he left for his usual walk and didn’t return. When she called, he had been missing more than four hours.

Search and rescue brought out a thermal imaging camera and a K9 air scent dog. At 4:15am, about ten hours after going missing, Kona, an 8-year-old yellow lab search & rescue K9, found the man in a ravine. He was about a quarter mile from the home. Lower Valley Fire Department crews and Sunnyside medics helped remove the man from the ravine using a 4X4 apparatus.

The man was cold and had some scratches and lacerations to his legs and arms, but seemed to be in good health. He was checked out and reunited with his sister.
