YAKIMA, Wash. -- State troopers were out yesterday patrolling the highways for drunk drivers. From 6:00 Tuesday evening to 7:00 Thursday morning, WSP cited just eight motorists for driving under the influence.

Just three of those eight were in Yakima. WSP said they are please with the level of last night's activity, and commenting that it was no different than any other day of the week.

Lt. Terry Leibrecht said, "This year we didn't have any fatalities, collisions in our area here, which is what we consider a success. Anytime we have an event that takes place especially one like the 4th of July, and we don't have any real major events that take place, we consider that a success."

Troopers say because the holiday fell on a Wednesday, people probably were not traveling as much as they would have if it were a weekend.
