Low Sales Tax Could Mean City Layoffs
By Sade Malloy
Yakima -- The city of Yakima is planning for the worst, even considering layoffs.
In a memo sent out by city manager Dick Zais he projects a 10 percent drop in what's earned from sales tax. The decline could add up to $1.5 million and less money coming in means something has to give. "If we're going to do significant cuts in the budget it's gonna be in the form of the people," says Dave Zabell, city Of Yakima. City officials say they're taking it month to month right now. |
