THIA Needs Members and Money Quick

How's this for the front page message of a local association newsletter: we're broke! That's the massage on this months Terrace Heights Improvement Association newsletter.

Association leaders say several factors are pushing them into the red, including higher Civic Center taxes, utility, and insurance costs. They also say only about a 5th of people they usually see are members this year. And people are canceling Civic Center reservations as they fear the center will close. That could be bad news for the organization and our historic building, says THIA president, Mike Dooley. "We're going to loose a voice and we're going to loose a place not just for kids, but for the whole community."

Dooley says the association does have money on reserve. But that could dry up in less than two years and threaten the Civic Center later if more people don't donate money or bring ideas forward.
