UNION GAP - He does it every year, but it doesn't get any cooler up on the roof of the Top Foods in Union Gap. That's where Lt. Mike Merryman of the Yakima Police Department will spend 48 hours.

The Cop on Top project has been raising money for special olympics for the past five years.
Last year they brought in about $32,000. This year they hope to raise $5-$7,000. Even in this recession. "People have treated us very well this morning in taking car of the athletes. There's a lot of money flowing and it's been a lot better than I thought it would be," said Keith Emhoff, Fleet Manager for the Yakima Police Department.

The money helps to buy uniforms, and pay for for travel and housing costs for the athletes.
