Adams Elementary Celebrates Treaty Day
By Melissa Wagner
WAPATO - This week marks the anniversary of the Yakama Nation's treaty with the U.S. to become a sovereign nation. The kids at Adams Elementary got a hands-on lesson.
The kids also got the chance to show off what they've learned. Treaty day is Friday. And for the first time, the Wapato school district will treat it like a school holiday. Which is great news for the staff. " That's real exciting because we have a lot of our children who participate and in the past we couldn't if we were employees," said Counselor Dawn Cobell. The festivities include a PowWow Friday night and a Rodeo on Saturday. It all takes place in White Swan. |
