State to get about $7 million in Zyprexa settlement

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Washington is getting about $7 million as part of a national settlement with Eli Lilly & Co.

The Indianapolis-based company is paying about $800 million nationwide to settle civil suits over marketing of the anti-psychotic drug Zyprexa for unapproved use, including depression and nausea.

Zyprexa is approved to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Last week, state Attorney General Rob McKenna said the state's Medicaid program and the general fund each would get more than $3.5 million, based on how much Zyprexa was used by patients here.

Another $7 million will be returned to the federal government, to offset its share of Medicaid money.
