Hunting For Holiday Discounts
By Sade Malloy
Yakima -- We know many of you headed back to the mall to score on some after Christmas sales but where can you get the best deals? This year many Yakima shoppers are trading in the big box stores for pawn shops.
It's the weekend after Christmas and everyone's out looking for a good deal including Mike Ross. "Just had a little extra cash after the Christmas season and thought I'd see what I could find as far as good deals go," he tells Action News. The big box retails are drawing in shoppers with some major sales trying to get you to spend that last bit of holiday cash with them. Some locals are hunting for even deeper discounts, exchanging retail shops for pawn shops. "We've probably seen 30-35 percent in more customers than before," says Jesus Estrada, Valley Gun & Pawn. Used merchandise is generally half the price of the same new item, so what's a better deal the pawn shop or same used products on-line? This DVD set priced 20 bucks at the pawn shop, the same show sets you back nearly 25 bucks at Amazon.com. A video game for $20 at a pawn costs only $12.98 online, a game console for $249 at the pawn shop goes for $399 at Amazon. Estrada says it's the store's cheaper prices and good quality that keep their customers coming back. The pawn shop prices aren't convincing all shoppers to change their routine. Barbara Myers, shopper says, "They've got 70 percent off on a lot of things in there and other sales that I haven't looked at, I'm going back to look." Some shoppers are sticking to the sale prices they've been looking for. |
