Help Solve a Crime... Get Cash
By Audrey Asistio
YAKIMA-- You can call it our local "Cold Case" squad. Crime Stoppers, police and sheriffs deputies in Yakima County need your help to close the book on some unsolved murders.
Yakima Police Chief Sam Granato says, "We know there are people in the community who know who was involved and we'd like for someone to step forward." This year alone, three murders in Yakima are still unsolved. That includes the death of teenager Mordeice Adams who was shot and killed last February. Mordeice's mother Tammy Masters tells Action News, "It's been extremely hard. It's been almost a year and it seems like it was just yesterday. I'm not the same person. It's really devastating." Tammy has held fundraisers and investigated her own leads, but she's running out of options and so are police. That's where Crime Stoppers comes in. If you call them with a tip, you could earn money. Crime Stoppers President, Dave Purcell says, "In November alone, Crime Stoppers received over 21calls. It lead to nine arrests and we paid over $1500." Tammy hopes they will receive that single call that will solve her son's murder. "I'm waiting for that. But how am I going to feel after? I still won't have my son. It's not gonna bring him back," Tammy says, while holding back tears. Bringing him back won't happen, but Crime Stoppers says solving the murder would be a step toward the bigger picture. "So we can make them feel that this is a good place for them to raise their family, or start a family," says Dave Purcell. Mordeice's mother is offering $15,000 to anyone who can give information about her son's death. If you have any leads on this or any other unsolved murder in Yakima County, you can call Crime Stopper's hot-line: (509) 248-9980 or 1-800-248-9980. |
