Business Behind Breast Cancer Awareness
By Sade Malloy
Yakima -- It's hard to miss the color pink in October. Everywhere you turn someone's trying to do their part for breast cancer awareness month. For one Yakima salon getting involved is a win-win, they help the community and help advertise their store.
It's a noisy and busy day for Salon Latour. Every haircut, manicure, massage and wax done today will be raising money for 'Ohana Yakima Memorial Hospital's Mammography Center. "We decided we want to do some manicure and pedicure." This is the third year for the event and like the past two years the salon is expecting 200 people. Great news for 'Ohana and great news for the salon. Angela Beaudry, Salon Latour owner says, "What we're looking for is to bring some new people into the salon to show the establishment." The business of breast cancer awareness is also just good advertising, the more new clients the better. Sade Malloy, Action News says, "Is it something that you recognize and think about when you decide to get your hair done in the future?" Tina Wilson, customer says, "It does, it's something that would persuade my decision I would definitely keep this place in mind." Megan McKinney, Salon Latour stylist says, "Those people are your advertisement for your business, being newer in the industry it can be tricky." So for Megan a new stylist at the salon the weekend's event is big, she's hoping to show off her skills and show support for a good cause. Angela Beaudry, Salon Latour owner says, "Feel like they had a great day a great service felt like they pitched in and contributed as well, that's really the moralistic background of it all." Cancer care services at Memorial's North Star Lodge will also be getting a share of today's donations. |
