YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima County commissioners say increased revenue will be used to give county employees a raise. They expect to have 3.5% more in the general fund.

Commissioners say they couldn't increase salaries during the height of the recession. Things are getting better now and hope the raises keep current employees.

"The board is really not looking at expanding any departments or taking on any new positions, but taking into consideration the compensation of our existing employees," said Yakima County Commissioner Kevin Bouchey.

Exact pay raises haven't been determined. Employees with the Sheriff's Office and Department of Corrections won't get raises from this. Their compensation is based on current contract agreements.
