YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima dedicated a street to the city's lone Medal of Honor recipient.

Part of 'A' Street is now called Pendleton Way - named after Staff Sergeant Jack James Pendleton.

Pendleton is known for his heroic actions in Germany during World War II.

The community remembered his bravery with speeches and music from the Yakima Valley Community Band.

Pendleton's relatives say they couldn't be prouder.

"What he did was not a surprise to us because he was this type of a man that thought of other people," said Janet Shea, Sgt. Pendleton's niece.

Sergeant Pendleton Way runs from North Front Street to 10th Street.
