SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- Sunnyside is making a deal with the Sunnyside Arts and Sports Association. City council said it'll allow them to track money and make sure activities are covered by insurance.

It would also allow the group to run Sunnyside's community center. This would help keep recreation open for hundreds of kids. A new recreation coordinator was recently hired. Sunnyside hopes to extend the hours for the community center.

"They play basketball here, they play soccer and it's a good safe place for the children to be,” said Shirley Martin. “Unfortunately it's not safe for the kids to play in the streets anymore."

City council will vote on the agreement on Monday.
