BAKER CITY, Ore. -- A hazardous material leak forced the closure of westbound I-84 Tuesday morning near the Baker Valley Rest Area, according to Oregon State Police.
OSP said the driver of a pickup truck pulled off the freeway into the rest area when a barrel tipped over and began leaking a hazardous, flammable liquid. Emergency personnel determined the driver was not harmed by exposure to the chemical.
A cleanup crew was heading to the scene late Tuesday morning. The rest area remains closed as emergency crews take every precaution to keep travelers safe.
A detour is set up for westbound traffic. Eastbound traffic is not affected.
