BENTON COUNTY, Wash. -- Deputies arrested two people in connection with the murder of Preston Yahne. Robert McCorkindale, 24, and Laura Bancroft, 19, are being held for the crime, according to the Yakima County Sheriff's Office.
Yahne's remains were found in a burned out car last week in the Lower Valley.
A witness came forward and told authorities he saw two people walking from the car before it burned, according to court documents. That witness identified Bancroft and McCorkindale after they were arrested.
McCorkindale told investigators he stabbed Yahne several times, then ran him over with the car, according to an affidavit. He told them Yahne was still alive, so he ran him over several more times. McCorkindale also admitted he set the vehicle on fire to destroy the evidence.
It's unclear what may have led to the murder.
Since the arrests, detectives discovered information that indicates the homicide happened in Benton County, not Yakima County.
McCorkindale will be held at Benton County Jail without bail pending charges.
Bancroft was booked into Yakima County Jail. Benton County authorities are expected to take custody Bancroft.
