YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima police arrested a man Wednesday evening for eluding police and possession of a stolen gun. That man is also a suspect in a shooting that sent a man to the hospital.

Police said David Loreto led them on a high-speed chase at speeds of up to 80 mph shortly after a man was shot near the Pierce Court Apartments.

The victim was shot multiple times and transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. No word on his condition. His name has not been released.

Officers were responding to another call when they spotted a gray car that belonged to Loreto who had a felony warrant for his arrest. According to a police report, Loreto narrowly avoided a collision and ran multiple red lights during the chase. When he tried to turn onto Valley Mall Blvd. he lost control, crashed into an embankment, jumped out of the car and ran.

Police said he tossed out a pistol and jumped over a chain link fence but got stuck when he tried to scale a second fence.

Investigators said the same type of gun was used in the shooting and the same type of car was seen leaving the scene. Loreto has not been charged for the shooting, but police said he is a suspect.

A judge set bail Thursday at $3 million.

Loreto is a four-time convicted felon, according to the police report.
