Tieton Water Project Almost Complete
By Valerie Hurst
About two years ago, about a dozen pipes broke in Tieton.
The city's come a long way. Public works is heading into the final phase of the project. Phase one fixed most of the damage that was done in a two day period back in 2006. But public works director Rich Olson told me crews needed to put in nine miles worth of new pipe. Some dated back to the 1920's. The project was also an opportunity to get fire hydrants up to code. "It was like bumps, some rocks on the street it was hard to drive in the street," says Tieton Ave resident Judith Lopez. The current phase mostly focuses on Tieton Avenue. Olson says it's the largest part of the project, but shouldn't intrude much on people's water supply. The city says even after disaster two years ago, this is a great thing for Tieton. It finally has the water system it deserves. Tieton's public works says phase four should finish by October. |
