By Valerie Hurst

We're all looking for ways to get around high gas prices.
Stealing should never be one of them.
Action News has more on a desperate move to beat $4 bucks a gallon.

Local farmers have had a tough year.
The endless cold weather didn't help things...
Add to that, thieves stealing their gas.

Mark Barrett dumped the gas and switched over to propane.
He says thieves were walking right onto his farm and filling up.
They'd siphon the fuel right into their gas cans.
At first mark tried switching to a smaller tank it t didn't do the trick--
He says propane's a lot harder to swipe.

"I had 150 gallons stolen at one time. I had an engine on top an EOC wind machine they completely drained it with locks on it broke the locks and drained it completely so...."

Mark said it got worse, thieves were taking from his farm trucks, too.
He told us an employee *saw the crook... but he got away.

Mark said law enforcement explained they have to catch the perps red-handed to do anything.
