Alleged Kidnapping, Rape Victim Back Home

By Maria Medina

YAKIMA -- Yakima police were still waiting to speak to the alleged victim in a kidnapping and rape investigation Monday afternoon to continue their investigation.

The 38-year-old woman was on her way from Seattle to Yakima, and had scheduled a sit down interview with police for Tuesday morning to give investigators more details on her case.

Meanwhile, word had spread quickly throughout the McKinley Avenue neighborhood where the woman has stayed with her boyfriend and the alleged kidnapping occurred Saturday night around 11.

"My first thought was oh my God, I know her," said apartment maintenance worker Scott Bissonnett.

"I heard what happened to the lady, I just live right there," Jensie Corona told Action News.

The alleged victim told police four men forced her into her boyfriend's car as she stood smoking next to it Saturday. She said one of them pointed a gun at her.

According to her statement to Seattle police, she was beaten and raped repeatedly from Yakima through Snoqualmie Pass and was eventually dumped at a west side mall more than two hours away.

Her boyfriend claimed he didn't know what had happened.

"He said he woke up and her and the car and everything else was gone, even his cell phone," Bissonnett said. "So he used my phone to call his cell phone and never got a response."

He said the woman's boyfriend first thought she had taken off with his car.

"Then to find out this, it was totally different then what we thought, you know," said Bissonnett.

Police wouldn't say whether they believe the suspects could be from here. They said this type of random act of violence is extremely rare and that the last time this happened was about three years ago when a woman told police a stranger kidnapped and raped her.

That case remains unsolved.

An off-duty trooper spotted the abandoned car on Interstate 90, Sunday afternoon.

As of Monday afternoon, the alleged victim was making her way to Yakima.

Her boyfriend spoke to Action News off-camera. He said he'd moved into the apartment just a week ago.

Bissonnett said the neighborhood is relatively quiet except for the occasional car theft.
