Yakima police officers recognized for heroic rescue
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Several Yakima police officers are being recognized as real heroes for rescuing the boys who fell through thin ice last weekend.

The American Red Cross nominated Sergeant Tim Bardwell along with Officers Esther Cyr, Gary Garza, and Mark McKinney for the Real Hero Award.

It recognized law enforcement officers whose life-saving action goes above and beyond.

The ceremony will be held in March. YPD said the boy who was flown to a Seattle trauma center is improving.
