New Form Of Advertising?

YAKIMA--
Check out the orange and maroon paint job on the new Mexican restaurant "El Mirador." It's taking the place of 'Frederick's On The Green'... But no green here anymore! Oxford Inn and suites owns the property. The company's very excited to have a tenant. The place sat empty almost a year. But general manager David Tufts also tells us no one knew it'd look like this when they suggested the place needed some brightening up. "They basically have given them free reign on changing the restaurant, doing what they need to do to make it their restaurant..." (reporter) But was it a concern? is it a concern? I don't believe so, not to me it's not. You get conversations and things like that but i think once people get used to the color it's just gonna be another restaurant," Tufts says. "It's eye-catching but it's a little gaudy, a little too flashy, too much and i wouldn't eat here," Farrah Hegle tells us. Arianne Cabbage says, "It looks kinda like a McDonald's to me but again the curiosity would get me before the colors would..." The owner's out of town, but he tells us by phone his motive was simple: he just wanted to make sure people could see his business from the freeway. That's pretty much assured now. The new restaurant should open in a few weeks. We looked into whether there are any city codes that mandate things like paint colors on businesses. City spokesman Randy Beehler says no such code exists. That's an aesthetic issue that's left up to the taste of the business owner. |
